Welcome to the February 2025 issue of Swords & Sorcery Magazine, issue 157. This is the first issue of a new year of Swords & Sorcery and I plan on going forward with four stories every month this year, thanks to the generosity of my Patrons over on Patreon.
Also on the front burner after many years of simmering at the back of the stove is what I hope will be the first of several volumes of The Best of Swords & Sorcery Magazine. This one will feature some of my favorites from the first 60 issues. If you have a favorite story from the early years of the magazine feel free to let me know in the comments, on the Facebook page, or on Bluesky.
In “Shade, Skin, Heart”, by Kevin Beckett, Patroclus escapes from the underworld to be reunited with Achilles. Beckett’s work has appeared in Pro Se Press, Water Dragon Press, and Bronze Knuckles Magazine. This is his first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
In “In the Time of Discord”, by Gustavo Bondoni, a young woman seeks out a wizard to help her save her town from demons in the fog. Bondoni’s work has appeared in many places in print and across the internet, including previously Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
In “The Quiet Sisters”, by Matthew Castleman, a thief flees into an ancient ruin to discover it is not quite abandoned. Castleman has had stories published in Old Moon Quarterly, Andromeda Spaceways, Daily Science Fiction, and elsewhere. This is his first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
In “Burning Pig, Broken Tower”, by Michael Meyerhofer, a sapper takes on the task of bringing down a magical tower. Meyerhofer’s work has appeared in Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine, Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, Analog, Heroic Fantasy Quarterly, and elsewhere, including previously in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
