Three Plus One

Welcome to the May 2024 issue of Swords & Sorcery Magazine, issue 148. In this issue I present three more stories for your reading pleasure. I also have a nonfiction piece of movie criticism for you. I’m taking advantage of the flexibility provided by my new site to give you more. I hope you enjoy it.

In “Away with the Fairies”, by Rick Danforth, inquisitor Hop must win three duels to save two stolen children from the fae . Danforth’s work has appeared  in Hexagon and Translunar Traveler’s Lodge, among other places. One of his stories was shortlisted for the 2022 BSFA Award for Short Fiction. This is his first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.

“Chasing the Adur Myth”, by Dave Hangman, is the tale of a mystical journey to find the mythical Adur. Hangman’s work has appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. This is his first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.

“Pilgrims of the Swamp Waste”, by Benjamin Sartison, is the story of a journey through a cursed swamp. This is Sartison’s second published story, and the first to appear in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.

“Why the ‘X Has Fallen’ film series is (and isn’t) Swords and Sorcery in a suit, and why it would be better if it went the whole way”, by Joel Glover, is a take on the ‘Has Fallen’ movies that compares them to classic sword and sorcery tropes. Glover is the author of the grimdark novel The Path of Pain and Ruin. This is his first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
