Welcome to the August 2024 issue of Swords & Sorcery Magazine, issue 151. I have three new stories to enjoy wherever you may find yourself this month, as well as an essay.
In “The Scarecrow of Terryk Head”, by Rab Foster, a retired witch helps local farmers deal with a magical menace. Foster’s work has appeared in numerous venues, including Aphelion, Sorcerous Signals, Whetstone, and previously in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
“The Hunger in the Dark”, by Matthew X. Gomez, is the story of a monster hunter who must confront a monster lurking at the edge of civilization. Gomez’s work includes the short fiction collection God in Black Iron and Other Stories and the novel PROJECT PROMETHEUS. His work has appeared previously in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
“A Simple Job”, by Josh Howard, is the tale of a farm boy sent to fetch a block of stone from a nearby ruin. Howard’s work has been published in Dream Fantasy International and previously in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
“A Told Tale by an Idiot: Westley v. Inigo versus Dumbledore v. Voldemort”, by Norman Grey, Esq., compares two notable fight scenes from well-known fantasy movies. Norman Grey is a member of the mysterious writing group known as the Triptych. This is his first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
