Welcome to the first installment of the Swords & Sorcery Magazine blog. If you are reading this you have no doubt noticed a change in the website design. It is still quite basic, but now it can be expanded and updated more easily. Going forward I have plans to continue making it more visually appealing and easier to use. Let me know in the comments if there are any improvements you would like to see in the site. I will consider implementing your suggestions if time and my limited budget allow.
One thing that won’t be changing at Swords & Sorcery is the content. I will continue presenting original fantasy stories set in worlds with pre-industrial technology, along with the occasional review or essay on works in the fantasy genre.
This page in Swords & Sorcery will be my contribution to ongoing conversations within and about the genre. Some of the things that have been included in the issue introductions in the past may now appear here, in greater depth and detail. That includes news about Swords & Sorcery and related projects, con visits, and other genre projects I support. I plan to write some posts about what excites me in submissions to Swords & Sorcery and what doesn’t, to help writers understand what is most likely to be published in S&SM. I might venture to review stories that appear in other publications or write about some of my favorites in the archives. I am open to suggestions about what to write about but please don’t be offended if I choose to ignore them. Not every topic interests me, and I am not sufficiently expert in all of the ones that do to want to comment publicly.
Posts to this blog are likely to be sporadic. I have ideas of things I want to cover here, but it is not the important content on the site. That is, and will always be, the stories I publish each month.
