Welcome to the September 2024 issue of Swords & Sorcery Magazine, issue 152. This month I feature four new pieces from authors you have seen before in S&SM, three stories and an essay. Enjoy!
In “Bliss”, by Lindsey Duncan, an innocent priestess is sent out to spread a plague that might not do what she thinks it will. Duncan has published a novel, Scylla and Charybdis, released in 2018. Her short fiction has appeared in Abyss and Apex, Andromeda Spaceways, Daily Science Fiction, and, of course, Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
In “Numbers Matter”, by Teel James Glenn, a warrior priest and his shadow travel to help communities struck by an epidemic. Glenn’s award winning work has been seen in Weird Tales, Mad, Sherlock Holmes Mystery, Scifan, Fantasy Tales, and Mystery Weekly, and, yes, Swords & Sorcery Magazine.
In “Tell Me the Count”, by Jonathan Olfert, an outcast warrior must defend his home so he can be reunited with his family. Olfert’s sword and sorcery tales have appeared in Old Moon Quarterly, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Heroic Fantasy Quarterly, and here in Swords & Sorcery Magazine, among others.
“Why Did It Have To Be Snakes? Sword & Sorcery’s Dislike of Snakes”, by G. W. Thomas, examines the appearance of snakes in sword and sorcery stories.. Thomas’s work has appeared in Writer’s Digest, Pseudopod, The First Line, Cthulhu Now!, and previously in Swords & Sorcery Magazine. His blog Dark Worlds Quarterly is at www.gwthomas.org.
