Next Steps

Welcome to the May 2025 issue of Swords & Sorcery Magazine, issue 160. This month I’ve got four new stories for you, all by authors new to S&SM. We also have an interview with author Christopher Ruocchio.

The crowdfund for the Best of Swords & Sorcery Magazine, Vol. 1 will start on August 1st. Watch this spot next month for links where you can pledge support and learn more details about the campaign.

“The Fishheart Ruby”, by Sam Belleneuve, is the tale of a thief sent to recover a gem from a the lair of a long-dead wizard. This is Belleneuve’s first published story.

In “Howl Rising”, by Kirsty Campbell, a woman’s psyche fractures under the pressure of injustice. This is her first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.

In “The Hero of Glasire”, by Becca Dwight, rebels bring back a hero who fell to an evil sorceress’s enchantments. This is Dwight’s first published story.

In “The Ferryman” Krista Farmer tells the tale of a fishman who reluctantly agrees to row a man across the bay under mysterious circumstances. Farmer’s work has appeared in Aphelion Magazine. This is her first appearance in Swords & Sorcery Magazine.

Alex Beecher gives us an interview with author Christopher Ruocchio. A story by Beecher appeared in Swords & Sorcery in 2022.
