It’s May and time for another edition of Swords & Sorcery Magazine. As usual there I have two good stories to present to you. I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the submissions I’ve received so far for Swords & Sorcery. Many of the stories I’ve chosen not to publish have been excellent and my decisions have not always been easy. I try hard when I reject a story to encourage the author to keep writing and to try again. To my delight several have taken my suggestion as I intended it and have sent me a second story.
The first story for this month is “Royal Steel” by Leigh Kimmel. It is a tale of fantasy politics involving a magic sword, a royal bloodline and the overthrow of a tyrant.
The second story for May is “There Might Be Giants” by David Turnbull. Politics also plays a role in this story but at its heart it’s a tale of how the truth gives a young man the courage to face the giants that are making his life miserable.
As always, comments and suggestions are welcome. You can email me at editor@swordsandsorcerymagazine.com or join the conversation on Facebook where we have a page. Comments on previously published stories can be made in the archives here on our website. I am still looking for suggestions for a new name for the magazine that is original and adequately describes what is published here. I am also very interested in publishing non-fiction related to the genres of fiction that I publish. I am particularly interested in reviews but would consider critical essays. Movies, comic books and novels as well as short stories are fine for review provided the works reviewed are fantasy and set in the pre-industrial past. I pay the same rates for non-fiction as I pay for fiction. More complete guidelines are in the submissions section of this site.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy this month’s edition.
